All of our apartments look out over Ramsgate marina and the English Channel, with the exception of Lyndhurst Rd. And they are all just a few minutes' walk from the centre of Ramsgate.
There are several golf courses in close proximity to our properties. These include the prestigious Royal St. George's GC, and Princes GC - both in Sandwich - as well as North Foreland GC in Broadstairs, Canterbury GC - and many more. Indeed, Royal St George's is hosting renowned golf tournament 'The Open' in 2011. If you're looking for accommodation for The Open, we would be delighted to help you. The golf course is just a scenic 15-minute drive away from Ramsgate.
We have three tennis courts just a few minutes' walk from the apartments, on Spencer Sq, which can be used free of charge at any time. In addition, there is a bowling green and croquet lawn close to The Regency and an indoor swimming pool off Newington Rd in Ramsgate.
After all this exercise you may wish to visit some of Ramsgate's restaurants, which offer a variety of cuisines. Age & Son (tel. 01843 851 515) had an ecstatic review in The Independent recently. It is owned by the chef who used to work at Kensington Palace and is, indeed, the nephew of celebrated chef Heston Blumenthal. My favourite restaurant is Bon Appetit (tel. 01843 852750), a gem on the seafront offering eclectic, and always exceptional, cuisine. What's more, it's only a minute's walk away from Sion House.
Next door to Bon Appetit is Baithak (tel. 01843 580 290), a good Indian restaurant which will deliver to the apartments. On the other side is The Galley, which overlooks Ramsgate marina and is a wonderful place for breakfast or a snack lunch. In a rather inauspicious building in Harbour Street is Thai restaurant Surin (tel. 01843 592 001) - it has received a number of excellent reviews in the national press. And then there is Eddie Gilberts fish restaurant which is one of the most highly rated in the country. If you wish to go there it will be necessary to book sometime in advance of your visit.
There are some spectacular walks in the area. My favourite walk is between Ramsgate and Broadstairs, which starts at the bottom of the hill past the marina by the old casino building. There is a small cafe on the beach halfway to Broadstairs and if you walk 100 yards to the left of the casino you will find a quiet, and almost deserted, wide sandy beach.
Westwood Cross is an impressive new shopping centre, boasting stores such as Marks and Spencer, Debenhams, Next, TK Maxx and many others. It lies 10min drive away, between Ramsgate and Broadstairs. There is also a casino and a very good cinema in the centre there.
Sandwich, too, is a lovely place to visit. It's very pretty and there is a river bus which leaves regularly from there - www.sandwichriverbus.co.uk. In addition there is a boat which goes out from Ramsgate Harbour regularly each day to visit the seals that reside in the Goodwin Sands and the Stour Estuary - www.horizonseasafaris.com
Canterbury is about 30 minutes drive away, and a trip here makes an excellent excursion. Its spectacular cathedral, along with historic St. Martins's Church and St. Augustine's Abbey, has been proudly designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Overall, this is a lovely part of the world with much to do and many undiscovered, quiet and beautiful places to visit both on the seafront and inland. A holiday in Ramsgate will prove to be an inspired break.
